New Castlevania DS Game Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin Announced

It seems everyone is getting their "A" game out prior to E3. Konami is giving us another much-needed Nintendo DS game in the Castlevania series with "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin". Some of the highlights of the press release are as follows:

  • All new setting: The World War II time-frame is a first for the series.
  • Two different playable characters that you will be able to switch on the fly mid-game.
  • Summon Attacks (read as: "Awesome! Summon Attacks!!!!")
  • It appears like it will have all the collection aspects of Dawn of Sorrow but with double the people/stuff!
  • 100+ Different enemies = non-stop vampire slaying fun!

I'm thrilled Konami is continuing this series and making some good use out of the DS's functionality (In-game map = godsend). If you'd like to read the whole press release just click the "Read More" button below. =)

Silent Hill Experience Review

The Silent Hill Experience is a really interestingly laid out UMD Movie. That was something I was kind of unsure about when I heard about this title. I thought, “Is it some sort of interactive choose-your-own-adventure type stories?” Konami did make a game similar to this years ago for the GBA (Play Novel: Silent Hill) so I was curious if this title would be a similar style. Being an avid Silent Hill fan I was anxious to see some of things that had been rumored to be awaiting me on this wonderful UMD. Particularly I was interested in the “Rare video content from previous Silent Hill games.”

Galactic Civilizations II: Galactic Conquest, Your Way

Galactic Civilizations II, subect of a recent editorial was released early this February. The game has a long history dating back to the days of OS/2 but more recently has seen great success on more modern platforms under the auspices of Stardock a small developer based out of Michigan. They were the subject of a recent editorial here at Bluealien regarding their stance on copy protection.

Anime Mandolin

I never thought I would so much as hear about a Japanese mandolin player, let alone find one that performed the opening to Lupin the Third. (warning, crazy moon language ahead)

Oblivion: First Impressions

I fired up my copy of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion today, and from the minute I got the shrink wrap off I have to say I am impressed.

Galactic Civilizations II

I?ve got a lot of ground to cover. Galactic Civilizations II, strangely enough, is the follow up to Stardock?s 2003 Galactic Civilizations, a welcome relief to the abortion that was Master of Orion 3. While the first Galactic Civilizations met with critical success, Galactic Civilizations II improves on the original in many ways.

StarForce Sucks, or A brief editorial on copy protection

I want to write a heartfelt “Thank You” to Stardock for their policies regarding copy protection. In an age where we are faced with increasingly draconian measures to ensure compliance (StarForce, I'm looking at you) Galactic Civilizations II is utterly, totally and completely bereft of such measures.
